CHERRYVILLE, NC (WBTV) - A Gaston County school bus driver is charged with molesting a student on the school bus.
Laurence Oscar Lee Huss, 50, is charged with three counts of indecent liberties with a child and three counts of sexual battery, said Cherryville Police Chief Woody Burgess.
Police arrested Huss Tuesday after an investigation that began December 16.
Burgess said a female student who is a minor told her parents Huss touched her inappropriately while driving the school bus. The girl's parents contacted their daughter's school, Beam Intermediate.
The school principal then immediately contacted police.
Cherryville Police investigated the incident, led by Capt. Jason Green, Lt. Mike Allred, Sr., and Sgt. Frank Dellinger.
Warrants were obtained for Huss, who is in jail under a $100,000 secured bond.
The Gaston County School District fired Huss on January 4, said GCSD Public Information Officer Bonnie Reedy. He had been suspended since the start of the investigation.
Huss was hired in September of 2009 after passing all background checks. He worked as a bus driver and a technical assistant, which was a position with no student involvement.
